The Oswego County Child Care Council was awarded Best Practices Certification at the May Meeting of the New York State Child Care Coordinating Council. Best Practices Certification acknowledges demonstrated competence in the field of Child Care Resource and Referral in New York State and recognizes compliance with 85 standards of quality.

The Oswego County Child Care Council promotes and supports quality, affordable and accessible child care throughout Oswego County. Families in need of child care are provided with free referrals to New York State licensed and registered child care providers in their community, tips on determining a quality provider that meets the family’s needs, and information on assistance for eligible families with paying for child care. The Council also assists individuals who are interested in opening a child care program in their home.

There are over one hundred and forty registered and licensed childcare programs in Oswego County. Anyone that cares for more than two unrelated children for more that three hours per day is required to register or license with New York State. Registered and licensed providers are fingerprinted, their backgrounds are checked, the programs are inspected, and they must complete health and safety training prior to receiving approval from New York State.

The Oswego County Child Care Council is located at 157 West First Street, Oswego NY 13126. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Contact the Council at (315) 343-2344 or toll free at 1 (886) 886-2344  for information on other services offered by the Council.
